A friend's blog reminded me of this great book. Baby Bargins is great. Baby Bargins is a Consumer Reports type book for baby stuff. It was especially helpful when deciding which things I should put on my registry when we had our first baby. Sometimes there are items which are worth the extra money, and sometimes the cheaper item is just as good as its more expensive counterpart.
My friend Wendy gives these great nursing bracelets as shower gifts. She gave me one when I was pregnant with Autumn. Milkbands are really great. When you are suffering from lack of sleep, and when your brain is just mush, milkbands really help you remember what side you left off. They also have holes and pegs with numbers so you can move the pegs to record what time you fed your baby last or to keep track of how long they nursed. No more safety pins on your bra or switching bracelets from wrist to wrist.
I love this wood teething ring. It is handcrafted from cherry wood, finely sanded and finished with non-toxic drugstore-grade mineral oil. It has a hidden rattle too! So easy to clean and looks like an heirloom piece.

I usually have good intentions when I start something, at times I flake. Then I feel guilty. I have a friend who has a pregnancy journal and writes in it religiously during her pregnancy. She is also very organized and keeps her baby book up to date, and records all the milestones of her child. Yes, she is amazing. As wonderful and as cool as I think her pregnancy journal is, I know I won't ever be that organized.
I had good intentions with my first child to keep up with her baby book...I failed miserably. I know many of you can relate. My grandmother sent me "Baby Time" just before my second daughter was born. It is a very fast and VERY forgiving baby book. I write it in when I have time, really when I remember. I jot things down on the calendar if I don't have time to write in the book, and when I do have a second to make an entry, I write down the important milestones from my calendar as well. I have found this book very simple and guilt free.
My favorite part about this baby book is that instead of the traditional blank pages to fill out, there are boxes to check, ages to circle, a place to write the mini-milestones, things your baby likes and dislikes, and a non-intimidating area for notes all on each page. Each entry can take less then 5 minutes. If you want a guilt free baby book, I recommend Baby Time.
Sling wearing was very intimidating to me at first. Once I got used to the feeling of wearing my baby I will never go back, full time, to the traditional front pack. Some of the cutest slings I have seen are from 360 Bebe. 360 Bebe is based in Austin, owned by moms, hand made and provide in home fittings. They will also personally show you how to use them. Slings are also easier to use and more stylish to me then the traditional carriers. They have so many different kinds of fabrics and colors. They even offer a Solarveil sling you can wear in the pool which offers sun protection for your baby.
If you are not in the Austin area, they can still help you to measure and get fitted for a sling. Their website offers very detailed pictures and directions on how to wear your sling. They are sewn by hand, and the fabrics are very sleek. You can't help but want more then one. They also offer gift cards which make lovely shower gifts.

I really loved making home-made baby food for my little girl. Before I started I thought it would be too much trouble and difficult. I quickly found it was fun, easy, and it was nice to know exactly what was in her food. Baby Cubes were really helpful when I took the food to go. I froze the food in the cubes and when I went out, put one in the diaper bag. By the time I needed the food they were defrosted. You can buy them here.
